Editor's Insight: A lot of research is being done about antioxidants, which are supposedly nutritionally beneficial compounds. There has been research published about the antioxidant content of coffee, chocolate and almonds.

Some product manufacturers are using some of the research to promote health benefits related to antioxidants.

The research may have potential benefits to the vending industry since many of these products are prevalent vending fare. Vending operators need to realize, however, that the health benefits of antioxidants is an area of disagreement among experts.

Vending operators should inform their customers about research, but they need to be careful not to independently endorse any such benefits. 11-01-07
