College In MI Offers Free Laptop Vending Machine

April 19, 2018

At Grand Rapids Community College in Grand Rapids, MI, students can access laptops out of a vending machine just like they would a granola bar. According to mlive, students retrieve a laptop by typing their last name on the touch screen panel and swiping their student ID through the card reader, and one of 12 fully charged Dell laptops slides out that the student is able to use for four hours. The student returns it when finished, and the machine automatically wipes it clean of their work and recharges it for the next user. The college began using the machine in October of 2017 from Laptops Anytime. Since then more than 500 students have checked out a laptop and logged about 660 hours of use without any issues, said a source.
