Google Takes Aim At Re-Routing The Vending Industry

Feb. 28, 2017

Google Maps for Work, a division of Google, Inc., is taking a closer look at the vending industry. Many readers will be very familiar with the difficult logistics involved with routing trucks and inventory around to dozens of machines per day. As one of the world’s foremost authority on getting around town, Google wants to help.

The company’s knowledge of location addresses, fastest routes, and access to the latest on what’s happening out on the roads makes it a valuable partner in handling the complexities of fleet management. In partnership with vending technology and solutions provider, Vagabond, Google’s foundational mapping technology is now lending a helping hand to hundreds of vending fleets to help them operate better, more profitable businesses.

Google took the vending logistics story to the streets throughout North & South America in 2016 driving the Google Bus and sharing the vending industry’s story through its collaboration with Vagabond. More recently, Google Maps has added its collaboration with Vagabond to its Customers page. The story highlights the ways the vending industry’s technology providers take advantage of Google Maps APIs to pinpoint locations, schedule dynamically, plot live machine information into map formats, and route truck fleets.

The Google Maps story also covers the benefits to vending operators who utilize the Vagabond suite of technology tools to maximize the performance of their operation – tripling profit margins by perfecting merchandising decisions, reducing time spent servicing machines, and eliminating theft.

In addition, Google touted the vending industry’s use of its technologies to users of its Google Cloud Platform by including its work with Vagabond in its Google Cloud blog. In a post detailing Vagabond’s use of the Google Maps Javascript API, Google explains how it helps provide vending operators live-time information on which machines and accounts need service as well as how they should get there. Vagabond is featured alongside remote trash and waste tracking company, Enevo, and real-time pet monitoring service, Pod Trackers. All companies featured use live data in conjunction with Google Maps and IoT technology to solve real world problems.

Google is paying more attention to the vending industry and joins technology leaders such as Intel, Verizon and Apple in doing so. Google’s inclusion of Vagabond’s use of its technology to various marketing channels is the most recent example of the vending industry turning heads in the greater technology community.
