PepsiCo Faces Lawsuit Over Naked Juice Marketing

Oct. 5, 2016

A lawsuit filed by consumer-advocacy group the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) alleges that PepsiCo misled consumers by marketing its Naked Juice as healthier than it truly is, according toBusiness Insider. The source reports that CSPI’s largest legal problem with the product is that the brand is marketed as a healthy option with taglines such as “only the best ingredients” and “just the healthiest fruits and vegetables.”

“Consumers are paying higher prices for the healthful and expensive ingredients advertised on Naked labels, such as berries, cherries, kale and other greens, and mango,” said CSPI litigation director Maia Kats in a statement on the group’s website.  “But consumers are predominantly getting apple juice, or in the case of Kale Blazer, orange and apple juice.  They’re not getting what they paid for.”

The class-action lawsuit is aiming to force PepsiCo to give monetary damages to consumers who have purchased Naked Juice beverages, in addition to making its marketing more transparent.
