Study: No Difference In Caffeine Absorption Between Coffee & Energy Drinks

July 11, 2016

A study at Washington State University suggests that coffee and energy drinks are very similar in terms of caffeine absorption and metabolism, according to WSU News. This is reportedly the first published comparison of caffeine absorption after consumption of coffee versus energy drinks. The research team — made up of health sciences faculty from the WSU Colleges of Pharmacy, Medicine and Nursing — compared coffee to energy drink, hot to cold and rapid to slow consumption rates.

The study found that the rate of consumption and temperature of the beverage did not significantly alter caffeine absorption.

The American Beverage Association (ABA) will be funding a follow-up study.
