McDonald's Tests DIY Coffee Counter

April 7, 2016

McDonald’s wants customers to customize their cup of coffee. Brand Eating reports that a McDonald’s location in downtown Chicago, IL, is testing a self-serve McCafe coffee station.

The station, separate from the original ordering counter, includes a touchpad for ordering and paying, a beverage spout and a dispenser for cups, the source reports. Customers can choose between many drink options such as lattes, mochas and cappuccinos that are customizable to flavorings, milk and espresso.

This isn’t the first time the company has tried something new when it comes to coffee. Last year McDonald’s opened a standalone McCafe shop in Toronto. It also began testing flavored McCafe hot coffees such as Hazelnut, French Vanilla and Caramel. In 2015 the company also introduced a mobile app with a loyalty program centered on its beverages.
