Up Close: A Look At 2015 Operator Of The Year Alan Recher

(CHICAGO) April 16, 2015 – Alan Recher, President and CEO of Five Star Food Service, was recently announced as NAMA’s Operator of the Year as part of the association’s 2015 Industry Awards. Recher will be presented with his award on April 22 at the 2015 NAMA OneShow in Las Vegas.

The NAMA Operator of the Year Award recognizes an individual who has exhibited the highest level of integrity, dedication, and leadership in the refreshment services industry. The recipient of this award has a penchant for innovation and embrace industry technology in their business and show leadership within the industry and their community.

Under Alan’s leadership, Five Star opened its 400th micro market in March of 2015. He has recruited and built top sales and marketing teams, established a focus on client retention and customer service, and under his direction, the company has increased revenue by nearly 200% over the past five years. An advocate of innovation, Alan has incorporated technology widely at Five Star and hopes to continue to grow the micro market segment of the business.

Before taking the helm as President and CEO in 2008, Alan served as Five Star’s Chief Operating Officer. Prior to his tenure at Five Star, he held the role of Vice President of Aramark Refreshment Services. A 31-year industry veteran, Alan began his career directly out of Northern Michigan University in a management development program with Aramark. Throughout his career he has lead and attended many sales and leadership training seminars, and has completed numerous continued education coursework.

A longtime member of NAMA and the Tennessee Automatic Merchandising Association (TAMA), Alan is active in the refreshment services industry, participating regularly in micro market panel discussions, sharing insights with his fellow industry colleagues.

Alan and his Five Star team were recognized by Automatic Merchandiser as one of their 2014 Team Pros to Know. Alan and his associates work very closely with and contribute regularly to the Chattanooga Community Kitchen, benefitting Chattanooga's homeless community. He also sits on the advisory board of Culture by Choice and on Five Star’s Board of Directors. Alan and his wife Alicia reside in the Chattanooga, TN area.
