Bacon Trend Creates Opportunity For Foodservice Innovation

Bacon continues to create opportunities for innovation in foodservice, according to Technomic, a food research and consulting firm. Technomic’s Darren Tristano writes, “There seems to be no end to the bacon trend, and we continue to see innovation across the restaurant landscape.” For example, Little Caesars recently added a Bacon-Wrapped Crust Pizza to its line up and Panda Express added bacon to its Orange Chicken menu item.

This trend extends to the vending and micro market industry as well. For two consecutive years, bacon has been a hot-trend in the food category of Automatic Merchandiser and VendingMarketWatch.com’s Readers’ Choice New Products of the Year Awards. AdvancePierre Foods took home the gold in the food category with its launch of the BIG AZ BaconAddict® Cheeseburger (2014) and the BIG AZ® Chicken Bacon Cheddar Club (2015).
