Going Green Helps Coffee Distributing Corp.’s Bottom Line

March 25, 2015

Office refreshment service company Coffee Distributing Corp., located in Garden City Park, NY, felt the effects of the economic downturn in 2008. In order to avoid layoffs and maintain quality customer service, the company turned to ways it could save money by becoming more energy-efficient and eco-friendly.

In an interview with Newsday, Coffee Distributing Corp. President Bob Friedman recalls how the firm added solar panels to its roof, replaced vehicles with more fuel-efficient models, overhauled its lighting system and provided locations with containers for single serve recycling. Coffee Distributing Corp.'s "Waste-To-Energy" recycling program generates environmentally-friendly energy from used Flavia, K-Cup and Lavazza packs, which helps finance the company's "Adopt-A-Highway" sponsorship. The company has been granted rebates and subsidies for many of their efforts.

The changes have helped the company save more than $100,000 per year, Friedman told Newsday.

Coffee Distributing Corp. is a New York State corporation that was founded in 1963. Today the company employs around 300 people and serves roughly 20,000 customers from its two warehouse locations in Garden City Park, NY, and Union, NJ.
