Dunham joins Star Food following his retirement as Director of Food Service for the Pinellas County School Board where he was responsible for a $50 million budget and feeding more than 104,000 students daily.
In January of this year, he was honored as a 2015 FAME Award winner for leadership and he was also a Silver Spirit Award-winner. FAME stands for Foodservice Achievement Management Excellence and is sponsored by the School Nutrition Association.
A quick Google search of Dunham brings up descriptive words like savvy, innovative and transformative, but if you ask Joe Gilbert the VP/GM of VE South, the parent company of Star Food Healthy Express, he will add one more “visionary”. “Art has the capability to see what is happening on the national scene now and coming down the pike, and marry that to what is available at the school district level – for us it is a perfect match and we are excited to have him join our team,” said Gilbert.
Dunham brings his 50 years of industry experience in school foodservice and mass feeding to the Star Food stable of professionals and with his keen understanding of the needs and responsibilities of foodservice directors across America he will continue to innovate and bring solutions to the ever-growing demands of foodservice directors.
A native of New York, he holds a Ph.D. in Food Service (NAFEM/Purdue); M.S. Food Service Management, Director of Food Services for Pinellas County Schools
He has authored:, Civil Rights in Food Service: Administrative, Frontline Staff; Food Safety and Kitchen Sanitation; Food Service Equipment: Safe Use, Sanitation; Foodborne Illnesses; HACCP; Nutrition Basics; School Meal Compliance.
Dunham served as President of the Florida School Food Service Association from 2003-2004 and was the Secretary/Treasurer of the School Nutrition Association from 2007-2009. Art currently holds the titles of Certified Food Service Professional and School Nutrition Specialist. While teaching Nutrition courses at The Art Institute of Tampa, Art was also the Director of the International Association of Food Protection.
Art received his master's degree in food service management from the New York University in 1986 and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Food Service (DFS) from the North American Association of Food Equipment Manufacturers (NAFEM) in 2007.
