Cautionary Tale: MTSU Student Purchased Three-Year Expired Drink From Campus Vending Machine

Feb. 24, 2015

A freshman at the Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) in Murfreesboro, TN, purchased a beverage from a campus vending machine and found it had expired in 2012, according to an article in the student newspaper MTSU Sidelines. Reports indicate that this isn’t the first time expired product has been dispensed, although it is the most dramatic. The student was unable to report the incident to the vendor as there was no contact information on the vending machine.

After going through social media and the MTSU faculty, the two vendors serving the campus were eventually notified. The source indicated that they have refreshed product. Also, stickers will be added to the machines that list contact information.
