USDA Official Audrey Rowe And Monumental Vending’s Craig Kushner Join Oxon Hill High School Students

Oct. 22, 2014

Chicago – October 22, 2014 --  USDA Food and Nutrition Service Administrator Audrey Rowe, who participated in a meeting with NAMA members and staff at the recent Public Policy Conference, will visit Oxon Hill High School this week as part of ongoing national school lunch celebrations.

“We thank Craig Kushner and Monumental Vending for helping host Administrator Rowe’s visit to the school.  Administrator Rowe will have an opportunity to see first-hand the Oxon Hill High School vending machines featuring healthier items – a great example of our industry’s commitment to being part of the nutrition solution,” said Roni Moore, NAMA’s VP of Marketing.

“We are pleased with the students’ response to the ‘better for you’ selections.  Quite simply, we have made an ongoing effort in providing choice for students and all the consumers we serve.  It’s the right thing to do,” said Kushner.

The event, taking place at Prince George’s County Public Schools, is themed “Get in the Game with School Lunch.” Rowe will enjoy lunch with students, select a snack from the school’s new vending machines, and discuss the importance of balancing healthy eating and physical activity.

School Lunch is an important part of a student’s health, development, and academic success. Accordingly, Congress passed the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act in 2010 with bipartisan support to help ensure every American child has access to the nutrition they need to grow into healthy adults. During National School Lunch Week, USDA celebrates healthy strides and highlights innovative strategies to help schools nourish their students.

Oxon Hill High School (OHHS) is a public senior high school, which serves grades 9 through 12, and is a part of the Prince George's County Public Schools system. In addition, Oxon Hill is one of three schools in Prince George's county to offer the Science and Technology Program and a magnet program with a highly selective admissions process. The Science and Technology Program is a "school within a school" with approximately 125 students in each entering class. Overall, the school has approximately 2,500 students spread across the four grade levels.
