NAMA’s Public Policy Conference 2014: Meetings With USDA, FDA And Other Federal Agencies

Sept. 25, 2014

(CHICAGO) September 24, 2014 – “With the continued pressure that our industry will face in the health and nutrition arena, we are really looking forward to NAMA’s meetings with the USDA and the FDA,” said Eric Dell, NAMA’s Senior VP of Government Affairs.

“We are very thankful to USDA Under Secretary Kevin Concannon and FDA Deputy Commissioner Mike Taylor who are meeting with our attendees to discuss issues pertinent to the refreshment services industry,” he continued.

“This is an ideal opportunity for NAMA to send a clear message that we are committed to being part of the nutrition solution and to working with federal agencies and elected officials.  We are showcasing key elements and accomplishments of our revamped FitPick program which continues to be a critical part of our work in this area,” said Dell.

“As in years past, we are working toward a series of productive meetings, including those with the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) and staffs from members of Congress offices on both sides of the aisle,” he continued.  “Coin and currency has always been a key issue for us and our colleagues at the BEP will update us to help us plan forward as an industry.”

“Scheduled meetings, include, but are not limited to, visits with representatives from USDA, FDA, Department of Defense, GSA (Government Services Administration); BEP (Bureau of Engraving and Printing) and PEW (Pew Charitable Trusts).  Building enhanced relationships with these influential agencies and organizations are important in expanding NAMA’s advocacy efforts on behalf of the industry,” Dell said.

Board members, Government Affairs committee members, and Emerging Leaders from NAMA will meet with staffs from members of Congress representing committees of impact on the industry.  Discussions will focus on: health, nutrition, and wellness; coin and currency and the effects of federal regulatory expansion.

Founded in 1936, NAMA is the national association representing the $42 billion U.S. vending and refreshment services industry.  With more than 1800 member companies – including many of the world’s most recognized brands – NAMA provides advocacy, education and research for its membership.
