WATERBURY, Vt.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Vermont employees of Keurig Green Mountain, Inc. (Keurig) (NASDAQ: GMCR), a leader in specialty coffee, coffee makers, teas and other beverages with its innovative brewing technology, will jump into the Winooski River to help clean the waterway of trash and debris for the 10th consecutive year during the week of August 4, 2014. With the help of American Rivers, Friends of the Winooski and Friends of the Waterbury Reservoir, the much anticipated weeklong employee volunteer event will culminate with the first Community Clean-up Day in the Winooski River Watershed for all Vermonters on Saturday, August 9, 2014.
The annual river clean-up is part of Keurig’s Community Action for Employees (CAFE) program, which allows full time employees to spend up to 52 hours a year volunteering for non-profits and local community based organizations during normal work hours. Keurig employees have spent the last decade supporting local water stewardship efforts by cleaning pollution and trash out of the Winooski River, an important waterway to Vermont communities. Last year, employees spent 700 volunteer hours on the Winooski River collecting nearly 2.5 tons of trash and scrap metal and removing 370 tires.

To celebrate Keurig’s 10th year of Vermont river clean-up, the Company’s Vermont-based employees are looking forward to joining with other Vermonters for a Community Cleanup Day, an additional day of cleanup in the Winooski River Watershed. On Saturday, August 9, 2014, community members will enjoy a morning of fun and volunteering in the watershed where they’ll wade in the river and walk along the shorelines to collect trash and debris. All volunteers will be provided lunch and a chance to win raffle prizes.
