NAMA Introduces New FitPick Resource: Alliance For A Healthier Generation’s Product Navigator

June 4, 2014

(CHICAGO) June 3, 2014 – NAMA has announced an important resource for its members:  the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Product Navigator, a product list compliant with FitPick Select® and USDA Smart Snacks in School standards.

“Created and managed by the Alliance, the Product Navigator is a tool that leverages the organization’s longtime nutrition expertise.  Now that there is one national set of vending standards, the Alliance and USDA are working together to provide resources and tools, including product evaluation. This is just one of the Alliance’s tools we are providing on our NAMA Nutrition Center for our members,” said Roni Moore, NAMA’s VP of Marketing and Communications.

“For the industry,  we’re hoping that this resource will make the process more efficient, both for operators looking for compliant products and suppliers interested in showcasing their products,” she said.  “Overall, the Alliance’s Product Navigator will help make this program work where it counts:  in customer locations, including schools.  This is particularly timely given that USDA’s Smart Snacks in School nutrition standards will go into effect July 1 for schools nationwide.”

“We look forward to continuing our work with food and beverage manufacturers as new products are introduced into the K-12 marketplace. The Alliance Product Navigator can help both vendors and schools as a one-stop shop resource for implementing Smart Snacks in School,” said Laura Hatch, National Outreach Advisor for the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.

For NAMA members working with customers outside of schools, there is a sample list of FitPick® compliant products – products designed for an environment requiring a less stringent nutrition standard – featured on the NAMA Nutrition and Wellness Center.  The Product Navigator can be accessed through the NAMA's Nutrition and Wellness Center.
