Michigan Appeals Court Throws Out A $475,000 Award For Blind Vendor

May 30, 2014

The Michigan appeals court has thrown out a decision awarding $475,000 to a blind man who sold food at a state building and objected to competition, according to CBS Detroit. Ron Fellows sold coffee and had vending machines at Cadillac Place in Detroit, MI from 2005 to 2008 but was unhappy because the state also allowed non-blind businesses to operate in the building. The court says the Michigan Commission for the Blind can’t be ordered to make financial awards and reversed the decision by Ingham County Judge Paula Manderfield. Full article.
