NAMA Unveils New FitPick® Healthy Vending Program At OneShow

April 9, 2014

In response to changing consumer preferences and evolving government nutrition standards, NAMA introduced a new and improved FitPick® healthy vending program at the 2014 NAMA OneShow, taking place April 9 to 11 in Chicago, Ill.

FitPick, NAMA’s signature nutrition outreach initiative since 2005, is designed to provide consumers with the nutrition information they need to make informed snack choices.

Since the program’s inception, millions of Americans from all walks of life have purchased their snacks from vending machines featuring FitPick products, according to the release. “The nutrition landscape is transforming. First Lady Michelle Obama’s efforts to promote childhood nutrition, updated USDA Smart Snacks in School standards and growth in overall consumer demand for informed choices indicate that people want to eat and live better – it’s our job to make that easy for them,” said Roni Moore, NAMA vice president of marketing and communications, in a prepared statement.

NAMA’s revised FitPick program is one step in a concerted effort to promote informed consumer choices and behaviors in all daily actions.

FitPick has a new look and feel, but it’s more than just a makeover.

New nutrition standards:

• FitPick for workplaces has adopted new nutrition guidelines, featuring absolute value requirements that are easy for operators and consumers to understand.

• FitPick Select for schools, hospitals and other locations has adopted the USDA Smart Snacks in School nutrient standards, helping ensure the program is approved in all health-oriented settings.

New tools for operators:

• New NAMA Nutrition & Wellness Center Website: www.fitpick.org.

• New program materials, including improved sticker and clings for vending machines, micro markets and cafeterias.

• New FitPick brand guidelines.

To inform the new guidelines NAMA assembled a Nutrition Advisory Council of outside nutrition experts and influencers from leading universities and health organizations and added frontline perspective with NAMA’s Healthy Vending and Micro Market Leadership Committee’s input.
