Cantaloupe Acquires Legacy Vending Software Provider CompuVend

April 7, 2014

Cantaloupe Systems, a premier provider of cloud-based, mobile technologies that delivers an integrated end-to-end vending retail solution, has announced its acquisition of CompuVend Systems, a leading provider of management and control software to the vending, office coffee, distribution and foodservice industries. The acquisition gives Cantaloupe Systems the ability to deepen and strengthen its vending management systems (VMS) offering while providing CompuVend’s customers with a suite of solutions for cashless vending, dynamic route scheduling, automated pre-kitting and merchandising, and inventory management. Post-acquisition, CompuVend VendPro customers can continue to use VendPro, or have the option to upgrade to Seed Office™, the cloud and mobile VMS from Cantaloupe Systems.

With the acquisition of CompuVend, Cantaloupe becomes the largest business solution provider in vending and OCS systems with more than 50 employees and over 400 customers worldwide.  This expanded team will benefit both CompuVend and Cantaloupe customers with higher quality of care and support as Cantaloupe continues its quest to transform the vending industry from an intuition-based business to a science-based business.

“This is a great opportunity to merge the capabilities of our products and the experience of both our companies. Cantaloupe was the pioneer in pre-kitting, dynamic scheduling, real-time monitoring and the first to develop a Web-based application,” said Mark Kronenberg, CEO of CompuVend, in a prepared statement. “CompuVend is a pioneer having developed the first PC-based system for its own vending and foodservice company in the late 70’s and have continued adding capabilities to accommodate the changing needs of the vending, coffee service, and food service industries.”

“Working with Cantaloupe, and after being in this industry for more than 30 years, I have been amazed at how quickly the Cantaloupe team is able to come out with new features and capabilities and roll them seamlessly into their product offering. And because the Seed Cloud Platform is Web-based, there’s no need to perform time consuming updates – which means users can take advantage of the new features very quickly,” said Kronenberg.  “Cantaloupe is fully equipped to quickly address the needs of its customers which will be ever more important in the future, as the vending industry evolves with the adoption of new technologies like we’ve seen in the last few years with cashless vending and micro markets.”

“I am very excited about the prospects ahead as we blend the considerable talents of CompuVend and Cantaloupe Systems. Our focus is on delivering solutions that improve our customers’ bottom line and their quality of life. Our success comes only from helping them succeed,” said Mandeep Arora, founder and CEO of Cantaloupe Systems. “We believe that the future of vending is a connected one – our customers’ machines, their people, and their back office – giving them complete visibility and control of their business from wherever they are.  We’re excited to be able to offer this vision to the newest members of the Cantaloupe family.”
