FDA Food Safety Inspections Halted During Government Shutdown

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended its food safety inspection program due to the federal government shutdown, according to the Huffington Post. The majority of FDA food inspectors have been termed “non-essential” and therefore unable to inspect food facilities. The Huffington Post estimates that 80 facilities will go uninspected each day the government is shutdown. The USDA’s Food Safety Inspection Service will continue in meat production facilities.
