Crane Upgrades Currenza Software For New Canadian $5, $10 Bills

Sept. 20, 2013

Crane Payment Solutions has released a software upgrade for its Currenza® SMV vending model bill validator that enables the acceptance of the new Canadian polymer $5 and $10 notes, debuting November 2013, according to the release.

“As part of our standard practice, we have been working directly with the Bank of Canada to develop software updates which will be available in advance of the new bills. The early release of the new software upgrade will provide operators the necessary time to update their field base of SMV bill validators well before the release of the new bills,” stated David McLaughlin, vending product manager for the Currenza, in a prepared statement.

Upgrading the SMV bill validator is quick, easy and inexpensive, reports Crane. Simply purchase a BlueChip™ SIM card with the number of downloads, insert the BlueChipTM SIM card into the validator and cycle power. In 10 seconds, the validator is updated and ready to take the new bills.
