Fungus Devastates $500 Million Worth Of Central America Coffee

The International Coffee Organization is reporting that coffee rust, or La Roya, a fungus that attacks coffee plants, has devastated more than fifty percent of coffee plantations in Central America, according to WMBF news. While U.S. coffee prices have yet to be affected, experts believe the devastation will drive up commodity prices in 2014. It’s estimated more than $500 million in product has been destroyed so far.
