Federal criminal charges are being levied for four former executives from Peanut Corp. of America for allegedly covering up information that their peanut butter was contaminated with salmonella bacteria, according to National Public Radio (NPR).
Charges that include conspiracy, mail and wire fraud and obstruction of justice are stemming from a 2009 nationwide salmonella outbreak in which more than 700 people became ill. Federal investigators traced the source of the bacteria to peanut butter manufactured by the Peanut Corp. of America, a company no longer in business. Full article.
