Washington Plans New Nutrition Guidelines For Vending Machines

Washington state was an early adopter of the National Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA) FitPick program designating healthy snacks in vending machines, but wants to update the program with a new set of guidelines, according to Seattle Weekly Blogs. The blog also discusses how "harried" route drivers often incorrectly stock the FitPick slots with more traditional snacks because they make commission and want to sell more products. The new program will likely do away with all high sodium, fat and sugar products, so specific FitPick slots will be obsolete. Full article.
