See The Video: New York State Lawmaker Opposes Bill To Change Vending Sales Tax Exemption

New York State Sen. Liz Krueger, D-Manhattan, spoke against a recent bill to change the exemption on vend sales taxes during a state senate finance meeting. She notes a higher tax on vend products would do “significant harm to small businesses.” The meeting can be viewed on YouTube; Krueger’s comments come seven minutes into the video. Editor’s Insight: No one disputed Sen. Krueger’s statement that it makes no sense to apply a higher tax to vending machine purchases.

Such discriminatory taxes not only hurt the vending businesses, but the consumers who pay the taxes. The tax is regressive in that it disproportionately hurts lower income consumers. 05-16-12 By Elliot Maras
