Editor’s Insight: It’s too bad these county health officials and educators aren’t up to the real challenge of educating youngsters about having a balanced diet and an active lifestyle. Getting kids and teachers to take a pledge to go without soda for a month is a lot easier than teaching healthy habits.

This pledge is nothing more than a gimmick that gets the media’s attention and makes officials look like they’re doing something constructive.
This pledge will accomplish little more than make kids anxious to return to unhealthy habits. 10-28-11
