Canteen Vending Services Inc. sold a portion of its South Texas Canteen franchise to Sunrise Vending, located in Corpus Christi, Texas for an undisclosed sum.
Canteen Vending Services will continue to hold the 130 franchises and the South Texas Canteen franchise, owned by Chester and Donna Husband, will maintain its service and coverage in the area that includes Brownsville and McAllen along the Rio Grande River.
“We are pleased with this addition of a new franchisee, a well-established vending provider, into our network of over 130 franchisees across the country. Essentially, this deal will help us establish a more comprehensive presence in the Southern Texas market and streamline service between the two franchisees,” said Dale Whetstone, president of Canteen Franchise in a prepared statement. “We will continue to support the world-class service both organizations have delivered over the years.”
“Independent small businesses need allies and alliances to help them to compete in today’s marketplace. Our Pepsi-Cola association is an example. This is especially true for our Sunrise Vending Co.,” said CEO of Sunrise, Karl Koch. “Canteen Vending has the resources, technologies, purchasing power and customer access Sunrise Vending needs to compete better. In turn, Canteen receives a solid distribution and marketing affiliate in Sunrise. This arrangement will help us better serve our Corpus Christi and Texas Coastal Bend customers.”
Founded in 1986, Sunrise Vending is owned by the Koch family. Its parent company is Oneta Co., a 100 percent women-owned small business located in Corpus Christi, Texas. Oneta has been in the total beverage business for over 149 years, which includes soft drinks, bottled water, coffee service and vending machines. They are also the only independent Pepsi-Cola bottler in the states of Texas and New Mexico, and the only water and soft drinks manufacturing (bottling) facility south of Houston on the Texas coast.
