Seattle, Wash. Allows More Food Trucks

Seattle, Wash. city council voted 8-0 Monday in favor of the new rules, which allow food trucks to sell beyond private lots, according to The Seattle Times in Seattle.

Editor’s Insight: The mobile food industry is undergoing a rebirth, driven by two forces: 1) the demand for convenient, quality food at a reasonable price, and 2) the large number of entrepreneurs with good business skills looking for new ways to make a living since they are out of work due to the recession.

This new breed of mobile food vendors has already changed the public’s perception of food trucks. It’s interesting that this rising new industry has not been hampered by the perception of the more traditional food truck, known as a “roach coach.”

The situation invites some comparison to the vending industry, which is also undergoing a transition driven by new market realities.
