Activists Use Smart Phones To Alert Supermarket Shoppers To Contact Hershey Regarding Labor Practices

July 15, 2011

This summer, certain activists are using smart phones plan to leave “consumer alert” cards on supermarket shelves in front of Hershey products to encourage the company to reveal its supply chain all the way to the farm level and encourage the company to source farms that do not use child labor. The alert cards include an innovative use of a quick response (QR) code to allow shoppers to take action on their smart phones right in the store.

Editor’s Insight: Smart phones give activists a new tool to target their messages. Based on the press release announcing this campaign, there are a number of organizations supporting this effort.

Businesses serving the general public will need to respond to these sorts of messages. 07-15-11 by Elliot Maras
