California’s Assembly Committee On Health recently approved a bill that vending operators have opposed that would require that healthy foods account for at least 50 percent of the items stocked in vending machines on state property, according to California Healthline, a news service from the California HealthCare Foundation.

Once the U.S. Food and Drug Administration finalizes its rules for calorie disclosure in vending machines, vending operators will be able to argue that federal labeling rules exist to help consumers make healthier choices.
