Cambridge, Mass.-based Vigix recently secured $1.5 million, giving it just under $3 million to date to expand its new automated kiosk business, according to xconomy.com, an online news source on business and technology.
The Vigix kiosk is about six feet tall, includes a video touch screen and a unique dispensing mechanism. The mechanism has no moving parts. Each product inside is held by a special hook. Upon purchase, a pulse of heat melts the hook allowing the product to fall.
