Alabama Governor Signs Nutrition Labeling Law

July 22, 2014

The governor of Alabama has signed a bill to regulate the nutrition labeling of food in restaurants, food establishments, and vending machines for chains or vendors of 20 machines or less. For more information, contact Mary Lou Monaghan at [email protected].

Editor’s Insight: This law demonstrates the need for national labeling guidelines, as cumbersome as those rules will be for vending operators.

The National Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA) sent out an email alert advising vending operators to submit comments to the Food & Drug Administration on its proposed calorie disclosure rules by the July 5, 2011 comment deadline.

NAMA supports allowing electronic and "front of package" nutrition information as an effective way to provide visible nutrition information. 06-17-11 by Elliot Maras
