Connecticut Considers Ending Food Tax Exemptions

With a looming budget deficit, projected at $3.5 billion in the next fiscal year, "everything is on the table," Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has said, according to The Hartford Courant in Hartford, Conn. Eliminating the 6 percent sales tax exemption on food alone would generate $400 million annually for the state, said one outside expert.
