Sodexo Awarded Four-Year Food Service Contract With The U.S. House Of Representatives

June 10, 2015

GAITHERSBURG, Md.June 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Sodexo, a leading provider of integrated facilities management and food service operations, announced today that it was awarded a four-year food services contract with the U.S. House of Representatives. The House contract with Sodexo commences on August 10, 2015.

The contract, awarded by the House Chief Administrative Office (CAO), includes management of food service operations for all House cafeterias, catering services and vending machines. Sodexo replaces the previous operator, Restaurant Associates, which continues to provide food service to the U.S. Senate and the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center.

"Sodexo has served U.S. government clients for more than 40 years and it is one of the only large-scale companies in the industry to have a division dedicated to government agencies," said David Scanlan, president, government services, Sodexo. "Around the world Sodexo provides food service for the U.S. military, federal agencies, first responders, dignitaries and business executives. We are pleased to add the U.S. House of Representatives to that list of distinguished and valued partnerships."

The overall offer from Sodexo will provide a robust food service program that emphasizes convenience, nutrition and quality. It will include industry-leading procurement systems and retail sales technology along with other best practices designed to increase customer and employee satisfaction. Renovations are scheduled to begin immediately. During that time, select cafeterias will experience temporary closings throughout the August recess to accommodate the renovations.

Sodexo operates and manages food service for a number of government agencies in the Washington, D.C. area, including the Department of Transportation, Department of the Interior, U.S. Patent and Trade Office and the Department of Defense. The CAO awarded Sodexo the food service contract following a thorough selection process that spanned two years and included market research along with staff surveys. An evaluation committee was also formed to review proposals, conduct site visits and make vendor recommendations to the Committee on House Administration.

As standard practice, Sodexo is committed to honoring the District's Displaced Workers Protection Act, which entitles current qualified employees to retain their employment with the new contractor through a 90 day transition process. The company further commits to offering permanent positions to all current employees who successfully meet the background and security qualifications and complete the standard employee onboarding process.

"Sodexo serves more than 15 million meals each day, from every U.S. Marine Corps base in North America to more than 100 government locations where we operate," said Scanlan. "It's an incredible honor that we now have the opportunity to serve the entire U.S. House of Representatives community, including Members of Congress, staff and visitors numbering some 10,000 people daily."
