Joe Doss To Receive Lifetime Achievement Award At 2019 Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting

Joe Doss, president and CEO of the International Bottled Water association (IBWA), has been nominated by the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting (BSIWT) committee to receive its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.  It will be presented at the annual seminar and tasting event, February 21 - 24, 2019 in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. Mr. Doss has led the IBWA since 1999, serving an industry that now produces the number one consumed beverage in America.  The IBWA serves its hundreds of members by providing science and research information, addressing environmental responsibility, and guiding government relations and communications. Past BSIWT Lifetime Achievement Award winners were enthusiastic with the selection of Mr. Doss:- Rarely does a trade organization head get recognized for the service they provide to their industry. Mr. Doss has a proven track record of strategic thinking and planning, managing complex and controversial issues, and building consensus among diverse (e.g., large and small) member companies. He has testified at several Congressional and state legislative hearings, and has appeared on numerous national media programs, including the CBS Evening News, NBC Nightly News, ABC World News Tonight, The Today Show (NBC), Good Morning America (ABC), CNN, The Lehrer News Hour, and National Public Radio (All Things Considered). Mr. Doss has also conducted interviews for articles that appeared in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, USA Today, Newsweek magazine and Time magazine.Prior to joining IBWA, Mr. Doss was Senior Vice President and Director of Public Affairs at the Consumer Healthcare Products Association (formerly the Nonprescription Drug Manufacturers Association), from 1997-1999. He was responsible for all public affairs and media relations programs and served as the principal public spokesperson for the Association.From 1990–1997, Mr. Doss served as Counsel at Covington & Burling, one of the nation’s leading law firms. He provided legal counsel and advice to corporations and trade associations on matters relating to product liability law and federal regulation of foods, drugs and other consumer products. His practice included providing advice on federal and state legislative procedure and strategy, drafting legislation and explanatory materials, preparing and delivering testimony, and meeting with legislators and staff to advocate clients' positions on a wide range of issues.Before joining Covington & Burling, Mr. Doss served in various legal and legislative positions at the Consumer Healthcare Products Association from 1984-1990. His last position there was Assistant General Counsel and Director of State Government Relations. Mr. Doss developed and implemented the industry's response to all relevant legislative and regulatory proposals, and represented the Association before state legislatures and government agencies. He established coalitions and maintained liaison with other trade associations, corporations, community and consumer organizations and government officials. From 1980–1984, Mr. Doss was a Government Affairs Representative for the National Stone Association. He was a registered federal lobbyist and was responsible for preparing and presenting the Association's position to members of Congress, agency officials and staff. Mr. Doss analyzed pending legislation, developed legislative strategy and positions and drafted supporting materials. From 1979–1980, Mr. Doss was a Legislative Analyst at LEGI-SLATE of Congress. He served as Capitol Hill liaison with all House and Senate Committees and reviewed and monitored all legislation for this computerized legislative tracking firm.While in high school, Mr. Doss served as a United States Senate Page from 1971-1973. He was present daily on the Senate floor and monitored all legislative activity. He was one of two Pages selected to deliver the 1972 Presidential Electoral Ballots to the House of Representatives to be counted.Mr. Doss has a B.A. in government from The College of William and Mary and a J.D. from George Mason University School of Law.  He has completed an executive management course at the Center for Creative Leadership. Mr. Doss is a member of the Bar in Virginia and the District of Columbia. He serves on the Board of Directors at the International Council of Bottled Water Associations and is a member of the Food and Drug Law Institute and the American Bar Association. The Lifetime Achievement Award is sponsored by WaterExpo of China who also sponsored the Lifetime Achievement Award presented to Jane Lazgin in 2018.
